Favourite rooms in September

As usual, and I am sure like many of you, I have been down the rabbit warren of Instagram and Pinterest and my head is full of gorgeous rooms.  I have a few of my favourite rooms in September below to show you, together with why I think these rooms are particularly good.

My Favourite Hallway in September

Favourite rooms September

Why I love this hallway

  • Really, what isn't there to love about this space?  If you are a fan of British Colonial style, then you will find this very appealing.  If you are more inclined towards a light coastal scheme, this would appear very drab.  I love both schemes so can really see the instant appeal in this room.
  • I just love a palette of dark walnut timbers, natural greenery and white sofas.  The contrasts are what makes this look so effective.
  • Of course the bones of this house are stunning and this style is the perfect choice for the architecture.
  • The natural floor rug with black edging zones the seating place perfectly.  Not many of us would have a hallway as generously sized as this one, but if you do, there are lots of ideas to copy here.  Many larger homes do have a big entry hall and often they are very under decorated as it can be a forgotten space.

My favourite kitchen in September

Why I love this kitchen

  • This is a cook's kitchen.  If you love food and entertaining, then this kitchen is perfect for you.
  • The range, not only looks stunning, but is perfect for large scale entertaining.
  • I love a kitchen with double island benches as in a large house it offers lots of storage, casual dining and workspace options.  I prefer this to one enormous island bench that takes up a large chunk of the kitchen. By incorporating two island benches you also create a better work flow through the space.
  • It's really the smaller details in this kitchen that I am really drawn to though.  The splashback of stone behind the cooktop that is finished with a shelf.  This gives you the opportunity to introduce some artworks which gives the room intimate appeal.  The switch to a soft white and grey square tile for the remainder of the splashback works really well to break up the large space.  A pot filler and fabulous styling either side of the range works perfectly.
  • Finally, that combination of natural timber, white, black and marble is an absolute classic and makes for a perfect transitional style home.

My favourite guest bedroom in September

Why I love this guest bedroom

  • I just love the muted colour in this bedroom and the successful mix of patterns.  It's a welcoming and interesting room which is not at all vanilla.
  • The mix of soft olive green in the wallpaper with richer green tones for the bed and accent cushion balances the off white furniture and wainscoting perfectly.
  • I love to see striped wallpaper as it is elegant and timeless.  However, it can be difficult to get right as it must be in proportion to the height of the room.  As this room has low ceilings and the wallpaper is partnered with wainscoting, the pattern works perfectly giving height to the space without overwhelming it.
  • The vertical ridges in the bedside table continue the vertical patterns of the wallpaper while the pretty pattern of the bedhead and base is the perfect foil to all the straight lines.
  • This bedroom is a masterclass in how to mix patterns and introduce some beautiful colour into a room.

My favourite bathroom in September

Why I love this bathroom

  • I have said on many occasions before that I love a bathroom that looks like a regular room.  Rather than this space just being a clinical room to wash in, a bathroom like this is one to linger and relax in.
  • I love everything about the bath; the shape, tapware and the marble top is stunning.
  • The French pattern travertine floor brings warmth and interest to the room, while the addition of a simple textured rug, pots and gorgeous curtains and pendant complete the look.
  • What a beautifully finished room and how wonderful would it be to have a bath here!

My favourite study nook

Why I love this study nook

  • I really like the colour of the cabinetry.  This study nook is close to the kitchen, but the designer hasn't felt the need to just replicate what is in the next room.  The flow works really well, but the space has it's own personality.
  • There are so many uses for this type of nook.  It is perfectly placed near the kitchen to pay bills, order online groceries or to just generally run the house and family schedule.
  • It would also work well as a great homework station, which is a good option for younger children and early teens.
  • There is storage, a family pin board and great lighting.  A perfect addition to a busy household.

My favourite living room in September

Why I love this living room

  • Firstly, the bones of this room are great.  I love the curves, stunning ceiling, fireplace and timber floor.  The room also has lots of beautiful, natural light.  These elements are so important when you are looking for a house to make your home.
  • With this beautiful backdrop, this room calls for some classic style decorating and the choice of furniture for this room complements it perfectly.
  • With a nod to French Provincial style, I love the eclectic sofa, chairs, marble console and side table and beautiful generous sized coffee table.  I do particularly like a good sized coffee table as it really helps to pull the rest of the furniture together.
  • With a comfy seat by the fireplace, good books to hand and nice wall lights, this spot is perfect.
  • This is a beautiful living room to while away the afternoon.
