Country Home Ideas – Elegant White

White is a perennial favourite when it comes to decorating schemes. Whether you love a contemporary look, the softness of a Scandinavian scheme, a relaxed coastal look or a pretty country style, you can't go wrong with white.

As much as I am addicted to colour, I really do appreciate the clean and simple lines that only the colour white can bring to a room.  There are certain decorating styles that really need an all white palette to succeed and it is no surprise that a white of some description is always at the top of the best seller list for paint manufacturers.

I recently wrote on this blog about how to select the right white for your project and also had published an article in Country Home Ideas, called Elegant White, which is below.  Click on the image to make it clearer.  Hope you enjoy!

I love that white can go with so many different schemes and themes! I love the way it adds an elegance as well as a calm feeling. Plus, it opens up a space, and makes a room appear larger. That is super beneficial if you are decorating or remodeling a smaller home.

Hello, we are extending our farm house to make room for a kitchen. It has a high raked ceiling, Organic white Caesar stone benchtops, Dulux vivid white shaker style cabinets. We are getting black steel framed windows and feature door. We have Jarrah floorboards. I have natural extras, jute rugs and rattan Pendants, a few cobalt blue pots and green splashes of indoor plants. I would like to know what you’d suggest for the ceiling colour, skirtings and walls? I’m after a slight warm contrast to the Dulux vivid white. Kind regards. Colleen

Hi Coleen you need to consider which way the room faces and how much sunlight it gets. This is a very neutral palette and Vivid White is easy to match most whites with. You can keep Dulux Vivid White on your trim and ceiling and then something with a little more depth on the walls. I find that Dulux White Cloak Quarter is a nice warm off white that doesn’t throw yellow and this may be worth a sample to test out. Good luck Samantha

We are renovating a Queenslander worker’s cottage. The bottom level will be lots of glass and Dulux Monument. I’m keen on a warm white that is not too yellow, look fresh but doesn’t look stark in the Queensland sun. I think it’s more a pinker tone than green that I prefer, but I’m a bit stuck. Thinking either Natural White or Antique USA half? Any other ideas would be great. I’ve seen pics that I like on Pinterest but can’t pick the colour. A

Hi Amanda if you like a warmer slightly pink tone then Dulux Natural White will be a good choice for you – an excellent exterior white – it will be quite bright in the sun though so you should paint a large sample first to double check. Hope this helps Samantha
